It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year. You know, when the color experts at Pantone will be announcing the 2019 Color of the Year, which will likely happen any day now. We’re on the edge of our ultra-violet seats waiting to see what hue it could be.
To help ease and abate our anticipation, we called on some of our favorite interior designer friends to find out what shade they could see Pantone choosing as the Color of the Year. From deep navy blues to canary yellow, here’s what seven designers predict the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year will be.
1. Midnight Navy
“While I appreciate color trends, shades of blue are always colors of the year to me. I like to use colors such as Pantone’s Midnight Navy because it’s dark, rich and moody. Also, it kind of acts as a neutral, this way you can incorporate other trendy colors in smaller ways.” — Jenny Norris of Jenny J Norris Interiors
2. Orangey Yellow
“After several seasons of white and beige interiors, we love a punchy orange/yellow. It feels refreshing and really energizing and can still be paired with lovely neutrals.” — Caroline Grant and Dolores Suarez of Dekar Design
3. Canary Yellow
“I see Pantone choosing a bright and happy Canary Yellow for the 2019 Color of the Year! It’s luminous, captures our attention, and promotes happiness.” — MA Allen of MA Allen Interiors
4. Brown
“My pick for Pantone 2019 is brown, which I think is the new black. It is deep, rich, comfortable and chic. I especially love an espresso or caramel undertone, which looks amazing layered and makes a dramatic statement.” — Vanessa Alexander of Alexander Design
5. White Alyssum
“If it were up to us, we would choose a stark, bright white like White Alyssum . With everything going on in our world today, we think everyone deserves a deep breath. A blank, fresh white can create a sense of calm, at a time we think everyone could use it!” — Shannon Wollack and Brittany Zwickl of Studio Life.Style
6. Oxblood Red
“I believe Oxblood Red is the next Pantone Color of the Year. We’re stepping back from neutral pastels and moving towards using more rich and saturated colors in all of our work.” — Shelly Lynch-Sparks of Hyphen & Co.
7. Navy Blue
“ Navy Blue works in every capacity from paint application on walls, to millwork, wall-coverings and bedding. This color has so much depth and works well with gender neutrality. It reads as a neutral and works well with lighter and darker finishes, cue in your black, brass and polished nickel accents. What I love most about navy blue is its ability to interplay between luxe and casual in an absolutely seamless way. Its slightly earthy tone brings out a warmer and inviting side to kitchens, bedrooms, and everything in between.” — Becky Shea of Becky Shea Design
